Acquisitions Programs
The Library of Congress, Kuala Lumpur representative office (LC-KL), is established under the auspices of Library of Congress, Jakarta, is a inimitbale unit to support the informational needs for the Congress and the American people with regards to Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
The offices acquire, catalog, preserve, and distribute library and research materials from Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam including materials such are essentially unavailable through conventional acquisition methods. Routinely the office collects and processing print and non-print materials for the Library of Congress, other U.S. governmental agencies, research institutions and universities in North America, Australia and Asia.
We collect materials from more than four major languages on various different topics. The topics range from education, religion, anthropology, sociology, economics, government and politics, history and current events, geography and the environment, science and technology, literature, medicine, agriculture, to law. The materials include analog and digital monographs, serials, maps, non-print materials, and audio-visual materials.
The office also participants in providing the daily regional snapshot of media coverage from Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam for the CRS and CAPSEA participants. The offices takes local and national field trips and cooperates with Malaysian libraries. The office routinely send circulars for new acquisitions for CAPSEA members.
The Library of Congress Kuala Lumpur is located inside the American Embassy, Kuala Lumpur with three Malaysian nationals.
The staff welcome new participants and visits from scholars.
